This week was a real mix of winter walks, practical jobs, and festive moments creeping in around the edges. We explored some beautiful corners of South Devon, kept up our Sweet of the Week challenge, and even squeezed in a lantern parade and a comedy night right on our doorstep.
The weekend began at home with baking and making. I experimented with kidney bean brownies, which sounded questionable but turned out surprisingly lovely. I did a bit of sewing before catching the bus to meet Glenn, and later we headed into Torquay for a gentle stroll. We finished the day with fish and chips by the sea, which never fails to feel like a treat.
Sunday was all about tackling the dreaded leak. Glenn was determined to get to the bottom of it, and with Steve’s help the floor was lifted, the problem was found, and finally fixed. It was a big job and a huge relief. I cooked a proper roast dinner and squeezed in more sewing, grateful to see Glenn finally able to relax.
Monday brought a real sense of excitement as the Christmas tree arrived in the Market Square in Totnes. We had the perfect view as it was lifted into place, and suddenly it felt like the festive season had officially begun. With sunshine overhead, we made the most of it and drove to Dawlish to see the famous black swans gliding along the water.
Tuesday was a long workday, but I made sure to take a break for a walk down to Morrisons. We continued our Sweet of the Week challenge at Cranch’s Sweet Shop, where the assistant chose Grey’s Teacakes for us. A chewy coconut-toffee sweet that was unusual but very moreish. Back at home, Glenn tackled a dishwasher repair, adding another successful DIY job to the list.
Midweek took us over to Brixham for a walk up to Berry Head. The views were as stunning as ever. We shared a fish finger sandwich for lunch before heading home, where Glenn put up a new shelf and I cooked a simple chicken and leek dinner using leftovers.
Thursday was a workday for both of us, but the evening made up for it. We walked just a minute from the flat to a comedy night and saw Paul Sinha from The Chase. He was brilliant, and it felt like such a luxury to have a great night out without even needing a bus.
The week ended on a high with another Zumba class, which is quickly becoming a favourite part of my routine. After popping to the butcher and making homemade doner kebabs, I headed off to my charity shop shift. I met Ian and Mandy, lovely viewers who kindly brought apples from their own orchard. Later, I caught a couple of buses to Brixham to meet Glenn for the lantern parade. We soaked up the festive atmosphere, enjoyed seasonal treats, and rounded off a busy, joyful week in the best possible way.
