This week felt beautifully balanced. Creativity, travel, and a few little adventures were woven together with quieter moments at home. From soaking up inspiration at Stitch Fest to Somerset day trips, cosy baking, volunteering, and exciting progress on our narrowboat, it was one of those weeks that simply flowed.
The week began with a train trip to Stitch Fest at Newton Abbot Racecourse, and I absolutely loved it. I went with the intention of not buying more craft supplies, although that promise was tested. Instead, I focused on inspiration and came away with plenty. I met Vanessa from Magpie and Butterfly, whose work is based in Marazion, and now I’m quietly dreaming of joining one of her workshops one day. I also chatted with a lady who runs a dye-your-own-wool course and discovered a local monthly knitting meet-up. The atmosphere was warm, welcoming, and wonderfully creative.
Sunday brought sunshine, so I took a gentle walk along the river before heading home to bake a carrot and coconut cake. It turned out delicious and set the tone for a slow, satisfying day spent pottering about and waiting for the plumber to check a small leak.
On Monday, we travelled to Burnham-on-Sea for the famous carnival. It was my first time seeing it and I was completely blown away by the illuminated floats, music, and sheer spectacle. We stayed overnight in a caravan, caught up with my brother and his family, and had the lovely surprise of meeting Heather and Julia, who watch our videos. It was such a joy to meet them in person.
Tuesday was spent exploring Wells, where we wandered through the stunning Wells Cathedral. A knowledgeable guide shared fascinating insights into the building’s history, and the medieval clock completely captivated me. Dating back to 1390, it’s one of the oldest working clocks in the world, with a 24-hour face and a moon phase display. Absolutely mesmerising.
After a peaceful morning walk along the Burnham-on-Sea seafront, we made our way back to Totnes on Wednesday. It felt good to return home after a few days away.
Thursday was a workday for both of us, but the highlight was receiving an update on our narrowboat build. Seeing how much progress has been made is incredibly exciting. It’s really starting to take shape now, and each update makes the dream feel more real.
The week ended with a rainy morning walk followed by my volunteer shift at the charity shop. Afterwards, I pottered around the flat, did a bit of work, and picked up groceries for dinner. I couldn’t resist buying Glenn’s favourite sourdough cheese bread from the market. The perfect Friday treat and a gentle end to a very full week.
