We sold our house, got rid of all of our stuff and moved onto a narrowboat called nutshell

in search of a life full of meaning

In 2016 we sold the house we had lived in for 20 years, got rid of all our ‘stuff’ and left in search of a more meaningful life.

Our four children had grown up and left home. Our lovely family dog Charlie had recently died and our life felt empty.

Glenn had recently sold his business,  after 15 years in a stressful industry he was tired and looking for a change.

We needed to take drastic action but weren’t exactly sure what to do!

We put our house on the market (it sold quickly) and I then persuaded Glenn that we should get rid of all our stuff and start afresh. Glenn reluctantly agreed.

We still did not know where we were going to live, and fortunately, Glenn’s sister offered us a place to stay while we worked out our next step.

We ended up staying with Debbie for over a year before deciding (on a whim) to buy a narrowboat. Neither of us had even been on a narrowboat before! We decided to buy a boat that needed some work, that way we wouldn’t blow our budget.

We brought a narrowboat called Breeze, she was a 45ft cruiser stern, built-in 1980 by Binley Engineers. The purchase took almost 4 months!! We made our way from Alvechurch to Northampton where we had secured a spot in the marina near the town centre.

We happily settled into boat life and Glenn set about renovating Breeze. He had almost finished when our friend Wendy from the YouTube Channel, Life in a Nutshell, popped round for a coffee. She explained that they were buying a yacht for ocean adventures and wanted a quick sale for their 70ft boat called Nutshell. By the end of the coffee, we had brought Nutshell.

We sold Breeze and picked up Nutshell who is our current home.

We stayed in Northampton marina until April 2019 when we decided we wanted a change and we moved to Campbell Wharf Marina in Milton Keynes. After a happy time there we were offered an off grid mooring with a garden near Ivinghoe on the Grand Union Canal.
